Live Oak Public Libraries is pleased to announce the grand prize winner of its 2016 “Ready, Set, READ!” Summer Reading Program (SRP). A winner was chosen from among eligible program participants and receives a $500 Back-To-School gift card. The 2016 grand prize winner is Amelia Penatello, age 9, who registered at Pooler Library!

In addition to the Summer Reading Grand Prize, the historic Mars Theatre in Springfield, GA donated $50 gift cards good towards admission, concessions, and more, to one (1) lucky reader in each of the three (3) counties we serve. The winners of the $50 Mars Theatre gift cards are Vincent Nguyen, age 12 of Chatham County, Emma Wilharm, age 11 of Effingham County, and Aaryanna Holland, age 5 of Liberty County.

The annual program is sponsored by the Live Oak Public Libraries Foundation with special support for 2016 from Barnes & Noble, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, George Hubbs, Rotary Club of Savannah South, and Canoochee EMC Foundation, Inc.

Area children earned an entry in the grand prize drawing every time they completed 10 hours of reading this summer. Children who cannot read on their own yet participated by being read to, encouraging families to read out loud together and share the joy of reading. As readers completed each ten (10) hours of reading, they received a Reading Rewards sheet which contained free or discounted coupons from area retailers, restaurants, cultural and educational venues, and entertainment attractions.

Children who completed 40 hours of reading received an extra entry in the grand prize drawing and also were declared VIP Readers. They received a VIP Reader’s lunch cooler, and a Golden Ticket which they will present at Savannah Children’s Book Festival in Forsyth Park on Saturday, November 12 to receive a VIP Reader’s badge. The names of this year’s VIP Readers will be published in the Savannah Morning News in November.
